YABLOKO Youth demands to investigate the murder of Timur Kuashev
Press release, 01.08.2016
Today Moscow YABLOKO Youth activists have held a one-person picket by the Investigative Committee demanding to investigate the murder of journalist Timur Kushev, to find those who ordered and committed the crime.
Timur Kuashev, 26, was gone on July 31, 2014. The next day the Rescue Service found his body in a forest in the suburbs of Nalchik, the Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria. Timur’s relatives and friends are certain that he was murdered because of his political activity since Kuashev had received threats form the law enforcement including the Center for Combating Extremism (or Center E, as it is usually referred to, whose officers spend their time monitoring civil activists, harassing them at rallies, and spying on opposition politicians). In June 2016 the investigation for the murder of Timur Kuashev was closed.
“I am sure that the murder was politically motivated. YABLOKO Youth forwarded appeals to the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Investigative Committee more than once, but we received only formal replies. In spite of the fact we are going to strive for reopening of the criminal case and conduction of the investigation on the federal level since law enforcement of Kabardino-Balkaria may have a personal interest in the case,” Maria Yefimova, deputy Chair of Moscow YABLOKO Youth, explained.
