The YABLOKO party urges to return to the election of mayors by popular vote only. Such a statement was made by party representatives at a press conference held in Murmansk on 25 July.
“Removal of citizens from direct election of heads of the cities is very beneficial for the present managers. They can “easily manage the cities” without paying attention to the people,” Alexei Kunavin, Chairman of the Murmansk regional branch of the Russian United Democratic Party YABLOKO, said.
He also noted that the decision of the Electoral Commission of the Murmansk Region of 23 July registered the list of YABLOKO candidates for deputies of the Murmansk Regional Duma of the sixth convocation.
“In addition to the list of candidates to the Murmansk Regional Duma, we have nominated candidates for nice single-mandate constituencies in our region – in Murmansk, Severomorsk, Apatity, Monchegorsk and Olenegorsk. Seven candidates have already been registered by electoral commissions, two candidate will be registered in the coming days,” Kunavin said.
The representative of YABLOKO promised, if elected, to initiate reduction of salaries of deputies of the Murmansk Regional Duma by at least 30 per cent.
