Press release, 15.03.2014
The YABLOKO party has taken part in the Peace March held in the center of Moscow today. The party column was headed by party leader Sergei Mitrokhin and YABLOKO founder and Political Committee member Grigory Yavlinsky.
“This is the action against military adventurism, against a very great danger of a military clash of the Russian and the Ukrainian people, which can become a real disaster,” said Grigory Yavlinsky. He also noted the importance of the fact that dozens of thousands of people took part in the demonstration.
“It is not too late to stop, because if there is bloodshed, the situation will become irreversible. And it will determine very tragic future for both Russia and Ukraine for a long term,” he said.
YABLOKO activists carried a banner depicting the flags of Russia, Ukraine and the European Union with the word “Friendship”. Sergei Mitrokhin stressed that it was a main YABLOKO’s message, “We insist that Russia should not just be friends with Europe, but it must become a truly European country, and only this can guarantee a stable future for the Russian democracy. Any deviation from this path means the path to the third world and a collapse of our country,” he said.
YABLOKO leaders and activists participated only in the demonstration, as the organizers did not allow the representatives of the party to speak at the rally.
It should be also noted that YABLOKO’s Political Committee adopted two statements at its extraordinary meeting on Friday: “No War ” – against the adventurism as regards Ukraine and Crimea and “The Path to Peace” with proposals to conduct an international conference.
