A round table on the situation with small and indigenous peoples of Russia took place in Moscow
Press Release, 23.10.2014
The Committee Against Xenophobia (YABLOKO is a member of) will participate in preparing a report for PACE on the situation with small and indigenous peoples. Such a proposal was made to the Committee at the round table “Preparing for Monitoring of the Rights of Small and Indigenous Peoples in the Russian Federation” held in Moscow.
Since 1998, when Russia ratified the framework convention on the rights of small and indigenous peoples the Russian Federation has already prepared three reports on the situation with these peoples in Russia.
This year Russia has to submit a report within the frameworks of a five-year term. A number of human rights organisations from Russia’s regions and Moscow have decided to provide an alternative report on the same subject. Such a right is provided to voluntary public associations under the Convention. The Committee Against Xenophobia was invited to join this coalition of public organisations and take part in the preparation of the report.
