YABLOKO announced open public nomination for the Golden Toilet Brush 2016 Anti-Prize. The prize is made in the form of golden toilet brush and will be awarded to officials for the most absurd and wasteful purchase of the year.

The Golden Toilet Brush Anti-Prize was established Youth YABLOKO in St. Petersburg in 2008. Such a name was given to the anti-prize because of then Governor of St.Petersburg Valentina Matvienko, as her administration purchased for the office gold-coloured toilet brushes at 12,000 roubles (approximately USD 462) per piece. Among the other nominees were head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov, Vasily Yakimenko, then head of the State Committee for Youth Problems and founder of the Nashi movement, and other famous persons.

Starting this year, YABLOKO decided to award the anti-prize annually. Anyone can send their proposals of nominees basing of the information of purchases of state agencies from the official web-site and supplying the details of the purchase.

The Golden Toilet Brush Anti-Prize will be held in two categories: the most absurd federal and regional procurement contract. Open public vote will be held on the anti-prize web-site and in the social networks. The winners of the vote will be awarded certificates for the waste of the state or regional budget funds and a golden toilet brush.

Those who find out and send the nominees of the three most absurd purchases will be awarded special prizes from the party.
