Yabloko in the Republic of Chuvashia demands that the Central Election Commission eliminate the municipal filter in gubernatorial elections
On 21 November, Yabloko branch in the Republic of Chuvashia organised a round table on the improvement of Russia’s electoral legislation. Representative of political parties, public organisation and the regional branch of the Central Election Commission took part in the discussion.
The participants of the discussion agreed that the municipal filter [the procedure of collecting signatures from regional MPs in order to be registered as candidates] in gubernatorial elections must be eliminated.
What is more, the participants of the discussion suggested simplifying the registration procedure for candidates for MPs. For instance, cut the number of signatures required for registration as candidates for regional MPs from 3 to 0.5 per cent.
At the same time, they agreed that all political parties should be able to participate in election without collecting signatures. Moreover, the participants of the round table expressed an opinion that all candidates should have equal access to mass media during election campaigns.
They also discussed an initiative prohibiting one political party to take more than 50 per cent of mandates in a legislative body.
The participants of the round table adopted a resolution which will be forwarded to Ella Pamfilova, head of the Central Election Commission.
