YABLOKO hosted the first meeting of the restored Council for Consolidation of Women’s Movement of Russia
Press Release, 3.07.2017
On 29 June, the first meeting of the restored Council for Consolidation of the Women’s Movement of Russia was held in YABLOKO.
The initiators of the restoration of the Council were its co-chairs: Galina Mikhaleva, Chair of YABLOKO’s Gender Faction, and Natalia Ivanova, a businesswoman. The Council will discuss new forms of work and attract new female participants and women’s organisations.
The decision on the revival of the Council was made by the participants of the roundtable discussion on Russia’s National Strategy for Women, which YABLOKO held on 26 April. The discussion resulted in the adoption of an alternative document entitled “The National Mechanism for Equal Rights and Opportunities for Men and Women and Government Policy for Women”.
Taking into account the amendments proposed at the round table, the document was finalised and sent to the Government.
The Council for Consolidation of the Women’s Movement of Russia was established at the Second Women’s Congress in 2008, exactly one hundred years after the first All-Russian Women’s Congress in 1908 took place.
