Press Release, 2.09.2019
Nikolai Rybakov, Deputy Chairman of the Yabloko party and environmentalist, visited Kazan, capital of Tatarstan, on 1 September. Together with Vera Kerpel, registered candidate for the State Council of Tatarstan, who is running in Volzhsky District No. 31 (the city of Zelenodolsk and part of the territory of Zelenodolsky District), the politician met with residents of the village of Osinovo who disagree with officials’ plans to build an incineration plant near their homes.
In his speech Nikolai Rybakov told the residents about the position of the Yabloko party on environmental issues and Yabloko programme that implies rejection of waste incineration and transition to multi-fractional separate waste collection. Vera Kerpel has also been advocating introduction of separate waste collection and recycling in Tatarstan for many years. Speaking about the government’s so-called “garbage reform”, Rybakov emphasised that “there is no garbage reform, there are only predatory tariffs and plans to turn Russia into a garbage landfill”.
The meeting ended with a session of the initiative group, which discussed holding of a regional referendum on the construction of a first hazard class facility in close proximity to the settlement. The initiative group included 40 residents of Zelenodolsk district.
