YABLOKO Congress to discuss the strategy of the party during the new election cycle
Press release, 26.02.2016
YABLOKO Congress which will take place on 27-28 February in Novaya Moskva (New Moscow – the extension of the city’s boundaries to the south-west) and will discuss the substantive basis of the electoral strategy of the party at the parliamentary elections of 2016 together with the presidential elections of 2018.
The first day of the Congress coincides with the tragic anniversary of the murder of Boris Nemtsov. After Chairperson Emilia Slabunova opens the Congress with her report, a minute of silence in memory of Boris Nemtsov will be announced. Moreover, the delegates will participate in memorial actions which will take place in Moscow on 27 February. For this reason the discussion of the key issues will be postponed until the second day of the Congress.
On 28 February, Chair of YABLOKO’s Federal Political Committee Grigory Yavlinsky will address the delegates with a keynote speech. The party believes that the election campaign to the State Duma is a matter of principle. But even a maximum broad faction in the Parliament will not be able to exert a considerable influence on the situation in the country. Therefore it will be proposed to change the election strategy so that the coming parliamentary elections will be directly connected with the presidential elections and to nominate a personal alternative to the current system. As such an alternative the Congress will consider the nomination of Grigory Yavlinsly as a presidential candidate.
The congress will be of wide open character the same way as it was during the first session of the Congress in December. There will be live broadcast at yabloko.ru
To obtain accreditation one should register via press@mosyabloko.ru or phone 8 (495) 780-30-19, 8 (926) 174-28-29.
