Today the leaders and activists of the YABLOKO party have laid a wreath and flowers to the Eternal Flame and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier by the Kremlin walls. YABLOKO conducts the memorial anti-fascist action annually.

Sergei Mitrokhin, Chair of Moscow YABLOKO and Federal Political Committee member, said that the ceremony was an important tradition for YABLOKO.

“We come here traditionally on the eve of the Victory Day to commemorate the heroes, to give the due to the heroic deed of our people who defeated the greatest evil of the XX century sometimes even contrary to the betrayal or unjustified cruelty or lack of talent of their own commanders. It is a great deed that will always be remembered by people until humankind exists,” he said.

YABLOKO Deputy Chair Nikolai Rybakov also laid flowers to the memorial. For him, as a citizen of St.Petersburg, the most tragic events of the war are connected with the memories about the siege of Leningrad.

“Very often especially these days I think about the severe events which took place on the streets along which I am walking today – there was bombardment, a lot of people died there at that place… I have a photograph album with the pictures of the city today and during the siege period,” Rybakov noted.

On May 8, YABLOKO leaders and supporters of the party will pay tribute to the heroes of the Second World War by laying wreaths and flowers at the Eternal Flame at the mass grave at Preobrazhenskoye Cemetery in Moscow. Thousands of Muscovites – soldiers and officers who died during the Second World War – are buried there.
