YABLOKO claims that resigned governors must not participate in early elections
YABLOKO deputies in St.Petersburg Legislative Assembly Grigory Yavlinsky, Boris Vishnevsky and Alexander Kobrinsky proposed an initiative prohibiting the governors-in-office to participate in early elections.
According to YABLOKO’s deputies, the governors who resign on their own accord or are dismissed by the decision of regional parliaments must not have the right to run in the early elections under any circumstances.
14 deputies supported the initiative, however, the majority voted against it.
The practice of early gubernatorial elections is used to prevent opposition candidates from winning the race. In 2014 governor of St.Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko won the early elections. YABLOKO claim that many violations took place during the elections. Deputies of YABLOKO faction refused to participate at Poltavchenko’s inauguration ceremony.
