This decision was made today by the electoral commission for electoral district No. 13, despite objections filed by Maxim Kruglov’s headquarters to the protocol of verifying signatures. Yabloko is preparing a legal complaint.
According to the candidate’s legal team, only 166 signatures out of 5,664 signatures could be considered invalid, that is, 2.9% of the total; whereas the law allows to register candidates with 5% of defective signatures. Meanwhile, the electoral commission said on Monday evening that it considered 1,037 signatures – 18.3% – as “invalid”. However, it should be noted that not a single signature was recognised by the commission as unreliable (falsified).
“The authorities don’t give a damn about the will of Muscovites, as long as there is no risk of defeat for their candidate. It is certainly shameful that this is happening in Moscow, in the capital. The next stage is the trial,” Maxim Kruglov commented.
It should be noted that Maxim Kruglov, a current Moscow City Duma deputy and leader of the Yabloko faction in the Moscow City Duma, managed to collect, together with his team, a sufficient number of signatures from Muscovites required for his registration. They did it in 18 days in extreme political and climatic conditions at the height of the summer. In total, over 6,000 signatures were collected, and the best quality signatures were selected out of this number. The selected signatures for Maxim Kruglov were also carefully checked by experts from the electoral headquarters of the Yabloko party and after this submitted to the electoral commission.
Maxim Kruglov is conducting his election campaign under the slogan “For Peace and Freedom! For the Ceasefire Agreement!”.
