Yabloko called on the Red Cross to organise humanitarian corridors to evacuate civilians from the combat zone in the Kursk region
Press Release, 13.09.2024
Yabloko Chairman Nikolai Rybakov sent an appeal to the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, Rybakov called on the Red Cross to become an international mediator in organising negotiations on a ceasefire and creating humanitarian corridors to evacuate civilians of the Kursk region from the combat zone.
In August 2024, part of the territory of the Kursk region of Russia came under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Hundreds (and possibly thousands) of civilians remained in these territories, as they did not have time to evacuate. Since the fighting in these areas continues, there is a real threat to their lives and health.
“Yabloko asks the International Committee of the Red Cross to use all its authority so that urgent measures are adopted in order to protect Russian civilians whose lives are in danger due to the ongoing hostilities,” the letter runs.
It should be noted that since February 2022, the Yabloko party has been insisting on an immediate ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine and the start of peace negotiations.
