YABLOKO Bureau called Grigory Yavlisnky the party’s presidential candidate at the elections of 2018
Moscow. June 10. Interfax – According to the information which appeared on Wednesday on YABLOKO website, the party will nominate Grigory Yavlinsky as YABLOKO candidate for presidential elections of 2018.
“The Political Committee of the party decided to take the principled political decision on nomination of Grigory Yavlinsky candidate for the post of President of Russia taking into consideration the situation in the country and within the democratic movement. The issue of nomination of the party presidential candidate will be considered at the coming conference,” runs in the statement.
According to YABLOKO, the latest actions of the opposition turned out to be a failure from the point of view of formation of a “non-ideological” union. “In connection with that and disappointment in the country and free or forced emigration of media persons symbolizing the protest movement in the eyes of the public and taking into consideration the personalized nature of a political way of thinking of the absolute majority of Russia’s population, the only effective and perspective political decision will be creation of a personal alternative to Vladimir Putin,” runs in the statement.
According to the statement, the candidate for the role of a true alternative to the current President is Grigory Yavlinsky who, according to the party, is not associated with oligarchic capital, corruption, “unprincipled cooperation with Yeltsin’s and Putin’s governments, and also from connections with the left and nationalists”.
“One should directly and clearly state: if an alternative candidate is not nominated as soon as possible, the democratic movement is doomed to an absolutely infamous defeat. All the attempts of joining together the “democratic forces” with nationalists and populists have no perspective at all and will share the destiny of the collapsed Opposition Coordination Council, the Committee-2008 and many other failed projects,” runs YABLOKO’s statement.
It is emphasized in the statement that the party’s own presidential candidate will create the platform for further work including preparation for local and regional elections.
