On 22 October, the Sverdlovsk region branch of the Yabloko party will hold a picket in Yekaterinburg against the Russian Federation’s withdrawal of ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT).
On 5 October, Vladimir Putin announced Russia’s possible withdrawal of ratification of the CTBT; on 12 October, it was reported that the relevant State Duma committee had prepared a bill to revoke the ratification. On 18 October, the bill was adopted by the State Duma in three readings.
As previously stated by Grigory Yavlinsky, Chairman of the Federal Political Committee of Yabloko, in his statement “Don’t push the planet towards a nuclear disaster”, “the Yabloko party makes a resolute protest against the revocation of ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty and calls on State Duma deputies not to pass the bill on revoking the ratification.”
The picketing will take place in the park named after the 50th anniversary of the Komsomol (at Yasnaya and Shaumyan streets intersection) on 22 October from 12:00 to 14:00. The location of the event is a “Hyde Park”; holding actions in such specially designated places do not require notification of the city administration.
