The Rostov-on-Don branch of Yabloko honored the memory of the victims of the Novocherkassk execution of 1962

Today, Rostov-on-Don traditionally hosted official mourning events dedicated to the anniversary of the execution of unarmed citizens by the Soviet authorities on 2 June, 1962.
61 years ago, the workers of the Novocherkassk Electric Locomotive Plant came out to protest against the reduction of their wages and raising of food prices. The authorities did not want to listen to citizens and shot dozens of unarmed people, including women and children. This shooting of unarmed people is known as the Novocherkassk massacre. Only according to official data, 26 people were killed, 87 were injured.
Maria Krivenko, Chairwoman of the regional branch of Yabloko, as well as Alexander Kolomytsa, Chairman of the local Yabloko branch in the city of Novocherkassk, party activists Boris Ustimenko and Jan Bek, along with other residents of Rostov-on-Don, laid flowers at the memorial stone in the Platov Garden.
