The Education Committee of the Legislative Assembly of Karelia supported the bill by Emilia Slabunova on the right of the family to teach all children in one school
Press Release, 10.04.2019
The Education Committee of the Legislative Assembly of the Republic of Karelia unanimously supported the draft federal law on the right of the family to teach all children in one school. The draft law was developed by Emilia Slabunova, MP of the Legislative Assembly of Karelia and Yabloko Chairperson. The initiative was sent to the Council of Legislators at the Russian parliament.
Emilia Slabunova offered to give families with two or more children the right to send their youngest child to the same school where the elder studies, if the territory of the whole district or city is assigned to this school.
“The adoption of such a law will give a serious impetus to the development of the education system, because many municipalities will be more eager in assigning the entire territory of their municipalities to their schools, realising that the most important stumbling block for them – the opportunity for younger children to go to the same school where their elder brothers and sisters study – is eliminated because the federal law will provide such an advantage, ” Emilia Slabunova said speaking at a meeting of the Committee on Education, Culture, Sport and Youth Policies.
Committee members unanimously supported the initiative. Now the bill will be sent to the Council of Legislators at the Russian parliament [the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation], and after passing the expertise, it will return to the Karelian Legislative Assembly. After approval by the regional parliament, the bill will go to the State Duma of the Russian Federation for consideration.
