The Primorsky District Court of St.Petersburg overturned the decision of the electoral commission to deny registration to candidates from Yabloko. Yabloko candidates must be registered in the municipal elections five days after the court ruling.
On 26 July, the court considered Anna Shiryaeva’s claim against the electoral commission of the Lanskoye municipality in St.Petersburg. The judge declared the refusal of the commission to register Shiryaeva in the elections to the municipal council unlawful and ordered the commission to admit Anna to the municipal elections. The court was provided with documents confirming that the procedure for nominating a candidate from the regional branch of the party was carried out by the Federal Bureau.
On 27 July, the court considered the claims of three more candidates from Yabloko: Dmitry Lysov, Mikhail Molchanov and Nikolai Solodkov. The ruling was the same: the politicians must be allowed to run in the elections. Representatives of electoral commission did not come to the trial.
Tomorrow, on 28 July, the court will consider a claim from one more Yabloko candidate – Yulia Bobylyova’ – against the electoral commission.
It should be noted that on 17 July the electoral commission of the Lanskoye municipality in St.Petersburg refused registration to five candidates from the Yabloko party. The commission explained its decision by the fact that the politicians were nominated by the subject of nomination – the St. Petersburg branch of Yabloko which had been undergoing the registration process – the activities of which had been suspended. However, in accordance with the Yabloko party by-laws, all the powers of the party branch are vested in the Federal Bureau of the party. Therefore, the nomination was fully in line with the Yabloko by-laws.
