The Chelyabinsk regional branch of Yabloko made a decision to recommend to the Party Congress to nominate candidates for State Duma from the region basing on the results of primaries. The selection of candidates for State Duma deputies from the Yabloko party in the Chelyabinsk region will be carried out in five single-mandate constituencies.
“The Yabloko Party is the only democratic opposition party that has the right to participate in the elections of State Duma deputies without collecting signatures, and therefore bears great responsibility for the nominated candidates before voters who want to vote for the real alternative to the current government and definite changes for the better,” Yaroslav Shcherbakov, Chairman of the regional branch of the party, noted.
The Chelyabinsk regional branch of Yabloko is ready to share not only the opportunity, but also the responsibility with all supporters of democratic transformations and invites like-minded people to participate in the primaries as:
Electors who have the right to vote in the primaries,
Participants who wish to run in the election in one of the five single-mandate constituencies in the elections of the State Duma deputies or in the elections / by-elections to municipal deputies (about 120 mandates in total).
Members and supporters of the Yabloko party, who have a passive electoral right, will be able to participate as candidates and vote in the primaries. Registration as supporters is open until 14 May for all legally capable citizens of the Russian Federation who have reached the age of 18, support the programme goals and practical actions of the Yabloko party, have signed the Memorandum of Political Alternative, and have no membership in other political parties.
The selection of applicants for participation in the primaries from among the registered participants will be held on 15 May at an open meeting of the Regional Council of the Yabloko party in the Chelyabinsk region with the involvement of representatives of a broad democratic coalition, based on the principles of objectivity, impartiality and rationality, as well as common assessment criteria: reputation, professional competence and experience; and electoral, organisational and financial capacity.
The Chelyabinsk branch of Yabloko plans to hold the debates and voting by 1 June.
