Press Release, 17.02.2020
On 15 February, the Chelyabinsk branch of Yabloko launched its regional campaign “The Constitution of Free People” at a rally in Magnitogorsk, the Chelyabinsk region. The rally was organised by Kira Belaya, member of Magnitogorsk Yabloko.
The event was attended by representatives of several political forces of Magnitogorsk: in addition to the Yabloko party’s activists, representatives of the Parnas party, the Movement for New Socialism, as well as Alexander Tishin, deputy of the Magnitogorsk City Assembly, came to the rally.
The rally adopted a resolution against the presidential amendments to the Constitution, for the alternative proposals of the Yabloko party, which limit the power of the President, guarantee the implementation of the principle of real separation of powers and strengthening of local self-government.
“Residents of Magnitogorsk should independently resolve issues of local importance and we should have enough resources for this. To start changes for the better, it is necessary to remove restrictions on freedom of speech, real independence of judges, as well as achieve succession of power in democratic elections – that is why it is so important to unite all democratically-minded social forces of our country,” Kira Belaya says.
The resolution of the rally will be sent to the Magnitogorsk City Assembly of Deputies and the Legislative Assembly of the Chelyabinsk Region.
It should be noted that the next rally for the adoption of the amendments to the Constitution that are alternative to the President’s is scheduled in Chelyabinsk on 22 February, at 14:00.
