Supreme Court cancels decision to dissolve Krasnodar branch of Yabloko
Press release, 1.11.2018
Russia’s Supreme Court cancelled the decision of the Krasnodar Regional Court to dissolve the Krasnodar branch of Yabloko on the grounds of procedural faults and remitted the case for a new reconsideration.
In July 2017 Evgeny Vitishko, a renowned environmentalist and ex-political prisoner, was elected Chair of the Krasnodar branch of Yabloko. Under some pretext the Ministry of Justice did not acknowledge the conference of the regional party branch and suspended the functioning of the party branch for three months. In Juny 2018 the Ministry of Justice dissolved the Krasnodar branch of Yabloko through court.
What is more, The Ministry of Justice did not inform the regional party branch and the Federal Bureau of the party about the forthcoming court hearing. Yabloko lawyer claim that the actions of the Ministry of Justice were unlawful and insist on the new consideration of the case. The Supreme Court ruled out that the case would be considered by a new panel of judges.
“The decision of the Supreme Court proves that Yabloko did not make any mistakes, of which the Ministry of Justice accuses us. Our goal is to make every effort to recover the activity of Yabloko in the region,” Emilia Slabunova, Yabloko Chair, explained.
