Stavropol YABLOKO conducted a protest action against the bill on decriminalisation of domestic violence
Press release, 24.01.2017
On February 23, the activists of the Stavropol branch of YABLOKO conducted a protest action against the bill on decriminalisation of domestic violence. If the bill is passed, the person who beats his family members resulting in light injuries will not be charged with a criminal offense. Only administrative proceedings will be instituted against him.
“Protests, rallies and pickets [against the bill] are taking place around the country. Stavropol does not keep out too, therefore we are standing here today,” activist Anastasia Antonets said.
The activists held placards with mocking slogans: “Beatings = family values? Do you beat your wife and children? The state approves of it”, “I was fined 20 000 for a picket. With this money I could have beaten one of my family members a couple times”.
