Sexist of the Year – 2014 award ceremony to take place in the House of Journalists in Moscow
On Wednesday, March 11, the fifth ceremony of the Sexist of the Year – 2014 award will take place in the House of Journalists (Dom Zhurnalista) in Moscow. The event will be held with the support of YABLOKO’s Gender Faction.
The organizer of the award held since 2010 is For Feminism initiative group created in Moscow for promotion of feminism and consolidation of activists fighting for women’s rights. The winners are determined by online voting.
The nominees for the top prize are Ivan Urgant, TV presenter, nominated for systematic sexist remarks belittling social values and intellectual abilities of women, publicist Yegor Kholmogorov and politician Vladimir Zhirinovsky – for open call for physical violence against women.
The prize for sexism in the mass media compete has two competitors: TV programme “Vesti” of TV channel Rossiya, a Igor Prokopenko, author and host of “Military Secret” programme of the REN-TV channel and Pavel Chernichyov, journalist from the Izvestia newspaper.
Prizes will be also awarded for sexism in advertising, anti-women policies and for women’s statements against women.
The Sexist of the Year award aims at attracting public attention to the problem of sexism and initiating a special law guaranteeing eradication of hate speech against women in the mass media.
The ceremony will begin at 16:00.
