Grigory Melkonyants, the head of Golos [a movement of election observers], has been arrested. The authorities do not even try to hide that this is a political case, a way of settling scores with the wrong people. Vasily Piskaryov, Chairman of the State Duma Commission for Investigation of Foreign Interference in Russia’s Internal Affairs, confirmed to Kommersant on Thursday that the claims against Golos were connected with the upcoming elections.

On the threashold of the single voting day on [10 September] 2023 and the presidential elections in 2024, the authorities are persecuting activists from the best organised and professional part of the election observers’ community.

164 Yabloko candidates are participating in the elections under the slogan “For Peace and Freedom!”

162 Yabloko candidates have been registered for the upcoming municipal elections. Two more candidates are participating in the by-elections of State Duma deputies in constituencies in Karachayevo-Cherkessia and the Krasnoyarsk Territory. In total, representatives of Yabloko campaign in 13 regions of the country, including Karachayevo-Cherkessia, Karelia, the Krasnoyarsk and the Perm Territories, the Sverdlovsk region, the Novgorod region, the Pskov region, the Moscow region, the Saratov region, the Tula region, the Rostov region, the Ryazan region, as well as Moscow (the Troitsky District). Yabloko expects to get its candidates into 24 municipal councils of deputies.

In Kirov, the home of members of the Yabloko party Denis Shadrin and Polina Kuskova was searched

On 17 August, at 6 a.m., three police officers in civilian clothes with two witnesses came to the apartment of members of the Yabloko party, spouses Denis Shadrin and Polina Kuskova. Laptops, phones, bank cards, cash, and passports were seized from Denis and Polina. After that, Shadrin and Kuskova were taken for interrogation. Their status in the criminal case on the “undesirable organisation” – the Golos movement of election observers – is witnesses.

In Novgorod, police searched the home of Ksenia Cherepanova, a member of the Bureau of the Novgorod branch of Yabloko and a Yabloko candidate in the elections to the Novgorod City Duma

According to Ksenia’s sister, Anna Cherepanova, who is Chair of the Novgorod Yabloko, armed men broke down the door of Ksenia’s flat early this morning, at 6 a.m., and started a search. The police took Kseniya Cherepanova away for interrogation. However, did not grant Ksenia the right to contact a lawyer or her relatives, and for several hours nothing was known about her whereabouts.

Yaroslav Shcherbakov: changes in the rules of land use and development will allow building up the Chelyabinsk forest

On 27 July, public hearings on this issue were to be held in the city, however, due to the fact that a large number of objections were received by the commission organizing the hearings, the hearings were canceled.

On the morning of 25 July, Rybakov together with the Chair of the Tambov branch of Yabloko Yana Zenkina and other party members, visited the office of the Dobraya Tochka, a charity environmental organisation, where, together with colleagues, he brought things for those in need. Tambov Yabloko has been cooperating with them for many years and helps to replenish their fund with the items they need. At the end of August 2022, there were more than 11,000 goods in the warehouse of Dobraya Tochka. Every year, several thousand people receive help from Dobraya Tochka.

Yabloko leader Nikolai Rybakov to visit the Tambov region

On 25-26 July, Yabloko Chairman Nikolay Rybakov will visit the Tambov Region. In Tambov, he will meet with Olga Burkanova, Director of the Voroninsky nature reserve, and Vladimir Sereda, with the former Chairman of the Tambov branch of the Memorial human rights organisation and the chief curator of the Sergei Denisov Literature and Arts Museum, as well as with members and supporters of the party. The next day, Rybakov will visit the city of in Uvarovo where he will attend an evening in memory of journalist and Yabloko party member Yuri Shchekochikhin.

The Electoral Commission of the Chelyabinsk Region registered Yabloko’s initiative on a referendum on the return of elections of heads of cities and districts to the region

The Electoral Commission of the Chelyabinsk Region registered the initiative of the Yabloko party on a referendum on the return of elections mayors and heads of districts in the Chelyabinsk Region. Direct elections of mayors were abolished in the region in 2010, and elected posts of mayors replaced by appointed city-managers.

On 20 July, the Stavropol Regional Court in Pyatigorsk resumed the debate on the “Ingush case”. Ruslan Mutsolgov, the public defender of the convicts, the Chairman of the Ingush Yabloko, and a member of the Federal Bureau of Yabloko, spoke in the defence of the convicts.

A Yabloko supporter from Tatarstan will be tried under a criminal article for “discrediting the army”

A criminal case was initiated against an activist of the Tatarstan branch of the Yabloko party under the article on “discrediting” the army. Yabloko announced a fundraiser to pay for the services of a lawyer, and in less than a day the necessary amount was collected.

Valery Denisenko, a Yabloko candidate for municipal deputies in Moscow, arrested

Early in the morning of 19 July, police broke into the apartment of Valery Denisenko, a candidate for deputy from the Yabloko party in the elections to the Council of Deputies of the Moskovskiy settlement, Moscow. He was detained and on the same day arrested for 13 days on the charges of “disobedience” to police officers (Article 19.3 of the Code of Administrative Offenses).

The Electoral Commission of Yekaterinburg certified the lists of Yabloko candidates in the elections to the City Duma of Yekaterinburg

On 19 July, the Leninsky District Territorial Electoral Commission of Yekaterinburg unanimously certified Yabloko’s nomination of candidates for deputies of the Yekaterinburg City Duma.

Thus, Yabloko’s participation in the elections both in the form a single citywide list of candidates, consisting of 19 supporters and members of the party, and 25 candidates from majoritarian districts, was confirmed.

Today, the Federation Council unanimously adopted another anti-human law, for which the Duma had unanimously voted before – a law banning gender reassignment.

Deputies and senators have found the most important problem in the country that requires their intervention – an exceptionally rare problem of “gender mismatch”. Even in conditions of armed conflict, the main enemy for our state are its citizens.

The conference of the Pskov branch of Yabloko nominated 55 candidates for deputies in the elections to representative bodies of local self-government scheduled for 2023, including 41 candidates on party lists and 14 candidates in single-mandate constituencies.

Members of the Council on Foreign and Defense Policies issued an official statement condemning calls on the possible launching a nuclear war which were published in the media. Three members of the Yabloko party – Academician Alexei Arbatov, member of the Yabloko’s Federal Political Committee, Major General Vladimir Dvorkin and military expert Sergei Oznobishchev – are among the signatories of this document.

MOSCA – Loro l’avevano detto. «Guardi qui, se non ci crede». Sul tavolo ci sono dépliant vecchi di cinque anni, che risalgono alle elezioni del 2018, e altri più recenti. In ogni documento si fa cenno al pericolo che corre lo Stato russo facendo ricorso alle milizie dei mercenari, si invita il governo a imporre «prima che sia troppo tardi» l’obbligo di operare in patria e all’estero solo con l’esercito regolare, alle dipendenze del ministero della Difesa. E non con strutture parallele private, come la Brigata Wagner, espressamente nominata. «Anche perché la presenza di queste organizzazioni comporta forti rischi di instabilità interna», è scritto in una delle tante proposte di legge presentate in questi anni.

«Noi avevamo avvertito in ogni modo del pericolo. Naturalmente, non ci hanno ascoltato». Nikolaj Rybakov, presidente di Yabloko, l’unico partito russo di opposizione ancora legale e a piede libero, sembra avere una maschera di disillusione sulla faccia. Siamo nella sede nazionale, in una via del centro di Mosca. Alle pareti della sala d’attesa ci sono poster che riproducono frasi celebri sulla pace di pericolosi sovversivi come Albert Einstein, John Lennon, il Mahatma Gandhi. Questo è il posto giusto per capire se davvero dopo i fatti del 23 giugno si apre una fase nuova, anche per chi dissente. «Certamente», dice con ironia questo economista, ex deputato, di formazione liberale. «Nel senso che potrebbero metterci su un treno e spedirci in Siberia».
