If we want to better understand Russia’s policies towards Ukraine and Crimea we have to be aware of some important motives and incentives behind Vladimir Putin’s actions.
Vladimir Putin received an oligarchic economy as Boris Yeltsin’s legacy, and in the past 14 years built his own system of political domination on this basis, and he is the key and indispensable element in this system. Vladimir Putin connects his perspectives only with the existence of this system and only as its head.

According to head of YABLOKO faction in St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly Grigory Yavlinsky, he will introduce his own bill on capital repairs of apartment block as well as a programme on the increase of energy efficiency of St.Petersburg heating supply system. The system will allow to cut costs for heating energy and spend the saved money on capital repairs of apartment blocks. The projects will be introduced by the end of May. Read more »

On April 10 Nikolai Kavkazsky participated in a round table on tortures in the Russian prisons.
According to Kavkazsky, tortures are widespread in Russia. The former political prisoner, who was charged with the Bolotnaya Square rally case, spoke about the prison conditions from his own experience and the cases he dealt with as a lawyer at the Committee For Civil Rights.
