Statement by YABLOKO Chairman, February 24, 2014
The YABLOKO party supports the idea of European integration, which has been the main driving force of the February revolution in Ukraine. The strive of the new Ukrainian government and the active part of the Ukrainian society for integration with Europe presumes that the country’s leadership will respect the core values of democracy and human rights, the rights of national minorities apparently belong to such rights. I’m outraged by the demonstrative disgrace of the sentences to the prisoners of the Bolotnaya Square Rally case. The fact that these people were kept in the detention prison for many months represents already in itself groundless cruelty absolutely incommensurable with the charges brought against them, moreover these charges were not actually proved. Sergei Mitrokhin: We have already expressed our attitude to the legitimacy of the verdict on the Bolotnaya Rally case. The sentence is based on fabricated evidence of the investogators.
I have been in the court at one of the trials, and I followed the trial closely. It is absolutely obvious that the sentences [to the defendenats] are not based on law or justice. They are politically biased.

Statement by the YABLOKO party, February 24, 2014
The YABLOKO party expresses its protest against a demonstratively horrible sentences to the defendants in the Bolotnaya Rally case, who received from 2.5 to 4 years in a penal colony. The fact that these people have stayed in remand prison for several months already represents unjustified cruelty absolutely inadequate to the charges brought against them, moreover the charges have not been completely proved. Barabanov – 3 years and 7 months (since May 28, 2012), Byelousov – 2 years and 6 months (since July 9, 2012), Dukhanina – 3 years of probation, Zimin – 3 years and 6 months (since June 8, 2012), Krivov – 4 years (since October 18, 2012), Lutskevich – 3 years 6 months (since July 9, 2012), Polikhovich – 3 years 6 months (since June 26, 2012), Savelov – 2 years and 7 months (since June 11, 2012).

People gathered in the court yard to support the political prisone…rs of the so-called “the Bolotnaya rally” case. The rally took place on the 6th of May was brutally broken by the police. The “suspects” of “mass-scale disorders” had been kept in prison since.

YABLOKO leader Sergei Mitrokhin and party activists came to Zamoskvoretsky Moscow Court where trial over Bolotnaya Rally prisoners was taking place.

Eight people from the Bolotnaya Rally were accused of participating in a “mass-scale riot and use of force against police” during protests of May 6, 2012. Prosecutors asked the judge to give them from five to six years of imprisonment. The prisoners insist on their innocence and complete acquittance.

ENVIRONMENTAL WATCH ON NORTH CAUCASUS, February 17, 2014
On February, 15 the IOC broke silence over the case of Evgeny Vitishko, who was sentenced to serve three years in a colony this week after his tireless work to expose environmental violations in Sochi. Here is what spokesman Mark Adams told journalists, according to the media:
“We have had confirmation from Sochi (Games organisers), who got the information for us from the relevant authorities, that this is not Games related,” IOC spokesman Mark Adams told reporters. Read more »

Informing you herewith that environmentalist Yevgeny Vitishko imprisoned for three years began a hunger strike, which has been lasting for six days already. A politically motivated arrest of a public figure in the region during the Olympics represents an event discrediting the Olympic Games. A statement made by a spokesperson of the International Olympic Committee that this sentence was associated with “vandalizing a house about three years ago and breaking a suspended sentence” has nothing to do with the social activities of the environmentalist, discredits the International Olympic Committee and demonstrates that your organisation has not even examined the facts related to the prosecution of the environmentalist.
