Yegor Kholmogorov, publicist and co-Chair of the Conservative press-club, won the top prize of the Sexist of the Year-2014 award. He was determined by online voting. The awarding ceremony took place in the House of Journalists (Dom Zhurnalista) in Moscow on March 11. The event was organized by For Feminism initiative group with the support of YABLOKO’s Gender Faction.
Chair of the Dagestan branch of YABLOKO Artur Babayev and his brother were detained in Makhachkala, the Republic of Dagestan, yesterday. Two people in camouflage clothes came up to them to check their documents. After the Babayev brothers showed the documents, they were asked to go to the district police station. They refused claiming that was unlawful. Then the Babayev brothers were detained by a group of policemen and taken to a police department. Read more »

On 8 March, International Women’s Day, the YABLOKO party held a rally in the centre of Moscow in defence of women’s rights in Russia. The rally was held under the slogan: “Women to Power!”, “The Ability to Give Birth Is Not an Excuse to Oppress!” and “For Equal Rights of Men and Women!”.
Activists of Moscow Youth Yabloko conducted a series of one-person picketing in support of Nadezhda Savchenko outside the Investigative Committee. Nadezhda Savchenko is the Ukrainian helicopter pilot, deputy of Verkhovna Rada and PACE delegate who is being kept in Moscow pre-detention centre on suspicion of having abetted the killings of two Russian journalists.
Twelve deputies of St.Petersburg Legislative Assembly including all members of YABLOKO faction paid tribute to Boris Nemtsov’s memory during the plenary meeting. Grigory Yavlinsky made a short speech which was followed by a minute’s silence.Read more »

Boris Nemtsov’s murder, which has shocked Russia, is the result of the war that has been under way for the past year. The war’s location is far broader than the area of military operations in east Ukraine. It covers the whole of Russia and the former USSR.
The Kremlin has created a concept of the “Russian world” which has no clear boundaries but encompasses the entire post-Soviet world. The application of this idea is official policy, mingling with the worst elements of public opinion. Read more »
