The YABLOKO party lists won elections to four city parliaments: in Tomsk (5.54 per cent), most likely in Kostroma (6.55 per cent, as over 50 per cent of ballots have been counted). In Kaluga, Alexei Kolesnikov, Chair of local YABLOKO branch, passes to the city parliament in a single-mandate constituency. Vladimir Mikhailov who obtained 37 per cent of the vote in his district passes to the Kostroma Regional Duma. Read more »

Political prisoner Maxim Petlin released from prison

Last week Maxim Petlin, former Chair of the Sverdlovsk branch of YABLOKO was released from prison where he served 2,5 years.
On March 21, 2013, the Sverdlovsk Region Court sentenced Maxim Petlin to three years of imprisonment. Petlin was accused of allegedly demanding a 3,000,000 roubles bribe from ZAO Forum Group for his obligation to stop public protests against cutting of the city park by the company and building a shopping center in its place.
YABLOKO claim that the prosecution of Maxim Petlin is related to his political activities, as it was on Petlin’s inquiry that a criminal case against Yekaterinburg Water Canal was filed. Petlin had been investigating the corruption schemes of the company’s management since 2009.

Mitrokhin: If democracy doesn’t win, Russia will lose

On August 22, the Russian flag day, a rally in memory to the events of the coup of 1991 took place. YABLOKO leader Sergei Mitrokhin and member of YABLOKO Policial Committee Victor Sheinis participated in the action. The demonstration started from the White House [parliament building] and ended by the monument to the democracy defenders where the rally began. The participants commemorated the memeory of those who died during the events of 1991 with a minute of silence.
