The most breaking news this week was the searches, which took place in Moscow’s Gogol Centre and in the flat of its art director Kirill Serebrennikov. According to the Investigative Committee of Russia, the searches were connected with a criminal case on the embezzlement of budget funds that were allocated for Sedmaya Studia (The Seventh Studio) non-profit organisation founded by Kirill Serebrennikov. It was reported that Sedmaya Studia’s accounting manager had pleaded guilty.Read more »
On 25 May, the Supreme Court of the RF refused to satisfy Yabloko’s appeal against the decision of the Novgorod Regional Court, which had refused to acknowledge the violations in the election to the Novgorod City Duma of 18 September, 2016.Read more »

On 28 May, Yabloko, Parnas, the 5th of December Party, the For Human Rights Movement and the Moscow Rescue Committee will hold a demonstration against the city-planning arbitrariness of the Moscow City Hall and the government’s “housing renovation programme”, which gives the city authorities the exclusive rights to demolish five-story buildings. Yabloko’s Anti-Corruption Policy Centre suspects that Natalia Poklonskaya, deputy of the State Duma, has not declared a car in her income tax statement, and also conceals her husband’s property and income. Sergei Mitrokhin, head of the Centre sent a letter to the Public Prosecutor General demanding to check the Poklonskaya’s statements. Read more »

On 19 May, Yabloko will show a documentary film about Boris Nemtsov by Vladimir V. Kara-Murza.
“Nemtsov” is a portrait film. People, who have different political stance and different attitude to the developments of 1990s and the current government, were interviewed – those, who were close to him, when he was doing scientific research and was making his first steps in politics, when he was appointed to high positions and was considered Boris Yeltsin’s successor, when he became one of the opposition leaders. The Pskov branch of Yabloko conducted an action called “It is time to return home” aimed at stopping Russia’s interference into the Syrian civil war. The activists gathered signatures for the withdrawal of Russian troops from Syria. They managed to collect about 400 signatures.Read more »

The new president of France Emmanuel Macron was inaugurated at the Élysée Palace on 14 May. The youngest president in the history of the Fifth Republic will turn 40 at the end of the year. Macron, with his evident social liberal and pro-European programme, won even a more decisive victory over Marine Le Pen in the second round than the pollsters had predicted gaining over 66 per cent of votes with the final turnout estimated at about 75 per cent

Yabloko is determined to nominate Yekaterinburg Mayor Yevgeny Roizman for governor of the
Sverdlovsk Region, the Urals. The party is carrying on negotiations with him at the moment.

On 16 May, Chair of the Moscow branch of Yabloko Sergei Mitrokhin and State Duma deputy Pyotr Tolstoy will participated in debates on the housing demolition programme announced by Moscow City Hall. Read more »
The Yabloko is announcing the start of the municipal election campaign in Moscow and is inviting civil activists, who want to participate in the elections, to become Yabloko’s candidates. Read more »
On May 14, thousands of people participated in a rally against the plans of the City Hall to demolish about 8,000 multistory apartment buildings in Moscow and resettle 1,6 million residents. Yabloko’s representative Yelena Rusakova became a member of the organising committee of the protest action. Yabloko leaders Emilia Slabunova, Grigory Yavlinsky and Sergei Mitrokhin also came to the rally. In general, about 20,000 people participated in the protest action. Read more »
