THE DAY AFTER
On the end of a lost era and the outlook for the future
by Grigory Yavlinsky, 10.09.2020

Photo: Rally for freedom and democracy, 4 February 1990, Moscow, Manezh Square
WHAT THIS TEXT IS ABOUT
The introduction of President Putin’s amendments to the Russian Constitution signalled the defeat of the democratic reforms commenced in Russia at the end of the 1980s – start of the 1990s. This failure can be attributed primarily to the following factors:
- The refusal to conduct a state and legal assessment of Stalinism and the crimes of the Soviet period;
- Gross miscalculations in the logic and substance of the reforms of the 1990s: hyperinflation, the loans-for-shares auctions, the merger of the state, property and business, and the emergence of an oligarchy.
These factors underpinned the creation of an autocratic, unlawful, quasi-mafia and anti-social political regime in Russia, marked by chronic economic stagnation and an impoverished population. This also led to a political system dictated by an imperial mindset, adherence to the principle of the “limited sovereignty” of former Soviet republics, attempts at flagrant interference in the affairs of neighbouring countries, the annexation of Crimea and war in the Donbass, contract killings of political opponents and journalists, senseless bloody participation in the war in Syria, and the adoption of countless repressive and backward-looking laws.
The goal of the opposition in the new environment is to engineer the regeneration of the Russian state: convene a Constituent Assembly; adopt a legitimate Constitution which actually exists to serve the people; and build a modern country on its basis. To succeed, we must achieve the following objectives:

For every investigative action there is a reaction of electoral opposition!
Statement by the Ivanovo branch of Yabloko, 9.09.2020

A search was conducted in the apartment of Irina Maltseva, candidate to the Ivanovo City Duma from the Yabloko party, on 9 September at 6 a.m. The investigative actions were carried out on the basis of the decision of the Basmanny Court of Moscow on the so-called 2003 YUKOS case. Similar measures were taken against Andrei Sergeyev, deputy of the Council of the Bogorodsky rural settlement of the Ivanovo district, and Nikolai Dyachkov, regional coordinator of the United Democrats project in the Ivanovo region.
It is obvious that the YUKOS case, to which the Ivanovo opposition, even theoretically, was in no way involved, is nothing more than a screen for covering up unprecedented pressure on strong candidates in the elections of representative bodies of local self-government. The only goal of the criminal regime is to demoralise our candidates four days before the main vote, as well as to create difficulties in their election campaigns.

The Supreme Court of the Republic of Bashkortostan removed from 13 Yabloko candidates from the elections to the City Council of Neftekamsk in single-mandate constituencies. A poisoned reputation
Grigory Yavlinsky’s web-site, 4.09.2020

Why does no one – not a single state in the world, not a single international organisation – believe what they say in Russia about Alexei Navalny’s poisoning?
Probably because no one, except Russia, change urine probes of their athletes. Probably because only “tourists” from Russia go to admire the sights of Salisbury using forged documents and suddenly they poison someone there. Probably because it is the Russian authorities who wage hybrid and criminal wars in other countries of the world and secretly bury their citizens who died in these wars.

Lev Shlosberg: Russia is now losing the Belarus of tomorrow
Press Release, 4.09.2020

Photo: Lev Shlosberg, Deputy of the Pskov Regional Assembly from the Yabloko party
Pskov regional politicians discussed the formation of a reserve from the Russian security and law enforcement for Belarus and Vladimir Putin’s support for the actions of Alexander Lukashenko at the Echo of Moscow in Pskov radio station.
The opinions of the Pskov politicians traditionally divided. Some believeв that the presence of a special reserve of Russian security and law enforcement that can be sent to Belarus on the request of Alexander Lukashenko would prevent a repetition of the “Ukrainian scenario” in Belarus, as well as possible unrest on the border with Russia. Others did not support this decision of the Russian government to form a reserve and perceived it as support to dictator Alexander Lukashenko.
Lev Shlosberg, Chairman of the Pskov branch of Yabloko and MP of the Pskov Regional Assembly, said that he was categorically against any interference into the domestic affairs of Belarus. In his opinion, after the announcement of the formation of a reserve of law enforcement and security in Russia for actions on the territory of Belarus, the Belarusian society would be more radical to Russia, since for most of Belarus citizens Lukashenko was “an illegally elected and hated president”.

Emilia Slabunova: Russia needs detoxification
FB post by Emilia Slabunova, 3.09.2020
Alexei Navalny [opposition politician and one of vocal critics of the regime] was poisoned with a substance from the Novichok group, the German government said in a statement. Angela Merkel, in her commentary, stated unequivocally that “it was an attempt to silence him [Navalny]”. Unambiguous, because if it were not for a chemical warfare agent, one could think of the Novosibirsk construction mafia or the Tomsk swindlers, about whom Navalny and his team were filming an investigation during their trip there. But we are talking about poisoning with a military nerve agent, which is inaccessible to an ordinary mafioso and which should not be there at all.
