On the International Children’s Day the Tatarstan branch of Yabloko held a picket for the adoption of the law on the prevention of domestic violence
Press Release, 1.06.2020
On 1 June, Marcel Akhmadullin, activist of the Yabloko party, held an action in Kazan demanding that Russia adopt a law on the prevention of domestic violence.
Marcel Akhmadullin held a series of single pickets in the centre of Kazan, near the shopping centre Koltso. He stood with placards: “No to domestic violence!” and “We demand adoption of a law on the prevention of domestic violence!”.
It should be noted that on November 30, 2019, the Yabloko party organised a round table on the topic of domestic violence in Kazan. The day before, the text of the bill was published on the website of the upper chamber of the Russian parliament – the Federation Council. However, event its co-authors from among social activists called it useless and “flirting with radical conservative groups”.
Despite the fact that the participation of Saria Saburskaya, Commissioner for Human Rights in Tatarstan, was planned, the official did not come to the round table. Instead of herself, she sent the head of the department, who practically did not participate in the discussion. Shortly before this, on 25 November, 2019, on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, supporters of the Yabloko party held an action in the centre of Kazan in support of the law on the prevention of domestic violence in Russia.
