Press release, 26.05.2016
Moscow YABLOKO conducted a picket is support of small businesses in the centre of Moscow, on Russian Entrepreneurship Day, 26 May. Moscow YABLOKO leader Sergei Mitrokhin, first Soviet millionaire Artyom Tarasov and the activists of Real Estate Owners Association participated in the street action.
The participants of the actions held placards which said :”Small business won’t live till pension”, “Small business is the basis of economics”.
The entrepreneurs whose business was injured by the actions of the Moscow authorities supported YABLOKO’s street action. In February a mass demolition of kiosks and small shopping centres took place by order of the Moscow Mayor’s Office (City Hall). According to the city government, the buildings had no formal planning permission. However, the owners claim that court confirmed the legal status of the constructions. YABLOKO states that the authorities destroy small business instead of supporting it.
On 18 February, a symbolic action in memory of small business took place in Moscow by the Department of Trade and Services of Moscow. Member of YABLOKO Federal Political Committee and Chair of Moscow YABLOKO Sergei Mitrokhin laid flowers to the doors of the building and expressed his condolences to the entrepreneurs.
