Mayor of Petrozavodsk Galina Shirshina nominated for prestigious European Award

A popular Finish party, the Swedish People’s Party of Finland (SFP), together with its Women’s Association Svenska Kvinnoförbundet announced their nomination of Ms. Galina Shirshina, Mayor of Petrozavodsk, Karelia, for the prestigious European award – The LeaDeR Award. They named Shirshina one the key liberal players on regional and local level. The finalists will be announced at the ceremony in Brussels on 25 April, 2016. The award is a sign of outstanding work of liberal and democrat politicians on the municipal, local or regional level of government.
“We nominated Ms Shirshina for her open, transparent and anti-corruption policies in the region, her defence of the principle of local self-government, and her socially oriented policies. We find that Ms Shirshina deserves recognition on the European level”, Anna Jungner-Nordgren, Chair of the Svenska Kvinnoförbundet commented on the nomination.
