Human rights activist Prof. Mikhail Savva was released after a complaint from Russia’s Ombudsman Vladimir Lukin
Press Release, December 5, 2013
Yesterday, on the 4th of December, human rights activist Prof. Mikhail Savva was released from the remand prison, and from now on he will be under home arrest. The Krasnodar Territory Court adopted such a decision after examination of a complaint from Russia’s Ombudsman Vladimir Lukin.
Active participation in the Prof. Savva case came not only from one of YABLOKO’s founders Vladimir Lukin, but also from YABLOKO leader Sergei Mitrokhin. During the meeting of non-parliamentary parties with President of Russia, Sergei Mitorkhin told Vladimir Putin about political reprisals against Prof.Savva and handed to him an appeal from Mikhail Savva’s wife Elena.
On 22 November Sergei Mitrokhin visited the trial on the Mikhail Savva case in Krasnodar
“We will be striving for a complete acquittal of Mikhail Savva. However, the issue of primary importance today is changing of the conditions of the home arrest, as the court prohibited Prof.Savva any communication even with his daughter and grand daughter,” Mitrokhin said.
