Grigory Yavlinsky: “The poisoning of Alexei Navalny should be investigated by an international investigation team”
Press Release, 7.09.2020
“An international investigation team should be created under the auspices of one of the credible international organisations so that to investigate the poisoning of Alexei Navalny with a chemical warfare agent,” Grigory Yavlinsky, Chairman of the Yabloko Party’s Federal Political Committee, said.
“Since we are talking about a suspicion of deliberate use of a prohibited chemical warfare agent (and this is not the first case), and morover against a harsh critic of the Russian authorities, this case requires the most thorough and objective investigation, the conclusions of which will be trusted in the world, and primarily in Russia,” Yavlinsky stressed.
The Yabloko leader believes that the investigation team should include non-partisan, highly qualified experts from different countries, including Russia, on a parity basis: investigators, forensic experts, medical experts and scientists. The Russian authorities are obliged to create the most favorable conditions for the work of such a group.
Last week, the German authorities said that traces of a chemical warfare agent, banned not only for use and production, but even for storage, were detected in the body of Alexei Navalny. In Russia, the authorities refuse to initiate a criminal case and do not even try to pretend that they are interested in an investigation.
