Today, the Moscow City Court will consider the appeal of politician Vladimir Kara-Murza against the ruling of the Basmanny District Court of Moscow on the choice of a measure of restraint in the form of detention. Kara-Murza has been in jail since 22 April on trumped-up charges of alleged spreading “fake news” about the Russian army.
Grigory Yavlinsky, Chairman of the Federal Political Committee of Yabloko, Lev Shlosberg, leader of the Pskov branch of Yabloko, MPs of the Moscow City Duma Maxim Kruglov, Sergei Mitrokhin and Vladimir Ryzhkov, Boris Vishnevsky, MP of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg and Deputy Chairman of Yabloko, and Artur Gaiduk, MP of the Pskov Regional Assembly, sent to court their personal guarantees.
They ask the court to choose a personal guarantee for Vladimir Kara-Murza as a preventive measure instead of detention in a pre-trial detention centre and guarantee the court that until the end of the preliminary investigation and trial, he will appear at the appointed time when summoned by the investigator, the prosecutor and the court, and will not interfere with criminal proceedings. In case of violation of obligations, each of the guarantors may be fined 10,000 roubles.
It should be noted that Vladimir Kara-Murza has repeatedly acted as an authorised campaigner of the Yabloko party in elections of different levels.
