Grigory Yavlinsky about the judicial reform
Grigory Yavlinsky FB post, 25.12.2017
Question: Why did no one manage to make the [Russian] court independent and you will succeed?
Grigory Yavlinsky: Simply because I am not afraid of court. I will be able to implement this reform, and anyone who is not afraid of legal prosecution will be able to implement it. If an issue of independence of the court is raised, then the next question in this issue is who will be under trial in such court. Who will be under trial if the court suddenly becomes independent? So, if the court suddenly becomes independent under the present scope of corruption, violation of law and arbitrariness that we see in Russia today, an independent court will sue, in the first place, the very top officials, starting from Russian President. The court will come to the President and will ask him questions: why this or that happened, why corruption is of such a scope, where the money has gone, etc. And this problem can be solved only by a person who is not afraid of a trial. That’s it. This is the point number one. Only a person who, so to say, is not afraid of a trial, only such a person can launch a true judicial reform.
