Press Release, 21.10.2019
Nina Dumnova, Chair of the Yabloko branch in the Altai Republic, called on Viktor Romashkin, Chairman of the Committee on Legislation, Law and Order and Local Self-Ggovernment of the State Council of the Republic, to include the issue of the popular election of the mayor of Gorno-Altaysk and the heads of municipalities of the region in the agenda of the upcoming session
“During the past election campaign, you have repeatedly voiced that heads of municipalities should be elected by popular vote. I am asking you to include this issue in the agenda of the session of the State Assembly of El-Kurultai of the Altai Republic, which will be held on 30 October,” runs the statement by Nina Dumnova.
The head of the regional branch of Yabloko also recalled that at the end of 2014, deputies from the government’s United Russia party adopted a bill that deprived the residents of the Altai Republic of the right to participate in the formation of local governments. Yabloko in the Altai Republic has repeatedly demanded that this bill be repealed.
It should be noted that Yabloko stands for direct elections of mayors, governors and members of the Federation Council, without any filters and restrictions. Direct elections were one of the key issues of the presidential election programme of party founder Grigory Yavlinsky in 2018.
