Andrei Babushkin elected to the Presidium of the Human Rights Council

Andrei Babushkin, member of the Bureau of the YABLOKO party and member of the Human Rights Council (HRC) under the President of the Russian Federation was elected member of the Presidium of the Human Rights Council. Babushkin was elected by the Commission for Facilitation of the Public Monitoring Commission and the Penitentiary Reform.
The Presidium of the Human Rights Council includes representatives from each of the 20 standing commissions of the body. The first meeting of the Presidium will take place on October 3, 2013.
The Presidium will be elected for one year term, and a third of its members will be changed every six months. According to its regulations, the Presidium will propose topics for discussion at the Human Rights Council meetings and will consider the issues related to the organizational, analytical and expert work, as well as implementation of the decisions of the Council.
