Anatoly Golov: “Our task is to make the authorities respect citizens”
Press Release, 07.07.2014
Today Anatoly Golov submitted to the St.Petersburg Electoral Commission his documents for registration as candidate for St. Petersburg governor from the YABLOKO party.
Anatoly Goalov signed a statement of consent to run in the elections in the Mariynsky Palace, and also handed to the Electoral Commission members the decision of the conference of St.Petersburg branch of YABLOKO of his nomination candidate for governor.
The Commission took the documents and handed to the candidate a permission to open a special electoral bank account. From this moment Anatoly Golov can start collecting signatures from municipal deputies in favour of his nomination so that to overcome the “municipal filter.”
Golov noted that he had already conducted negotiations with a number of municipal deputies willing to put their signatures in favour of nomination of YABLOKO’s candidate. “There are other about 400 municipal deputies who have not been embraced yet by our subscription campaign and we will talk to them soon,” Golov said.
Answering jounralists’ questions about its programme he noted that his main task was to make the authorities face the problems of the city residents.
“Today the Governor and city authorities turned their back to the citizens. The authority demonstrates disrespect for citizens, allows to destroy historical monuments, engages in chaotic construction, and does not implement the city budget. But the main thing us how it treats people.” Golov noted.
“Our task is to make the authorities face people and force them to respect us, the inhabitants of the city”, he stressed.
Golov also said that the first problem he would deal with as Governor would be the budget policy.
“32% of the city budget comes from the income tax, i.e., the money transferred by the city residents. We all transfer this money for solution of the city problems. But the money is spent extremely inefficiently. Why much more funds are allotted to a stadium than to capital repairs of buildings and giving new flats to the people still living in communal flats? Such are the political priorities of the authorities, they do not work for the citizens,” Anatoly Golov said.
