Russian citizens continue to face travel restrictions at the vehicle checkpoints at the Russian border. The restrictions were established by the Russian government in March 2020 and have not yet been lifted, despite a sharp decrease in the morbidity and the abolition of anti-virus restrictions in the neighbouring countries. Thus, recently the refusal of the Russian border guards to allow famous Russian film director Alexander Sokurov, who is resident of St.Petersburg, to pass through the Russian-Finnish border to participate in an international conference caused a great public outcry.
In this regard, Alexander Shishlov, head of the Yabloko faction in the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg, sent an appeal to Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. The deputy asked Prime Minister to cancel restrictions on the movement of Russian citizens across the state border at all types of checkpoints, since such restrictions could no longer be justified by medical reasons at present and create obstacles to the exercise of the constitutional right of citizens to freely travel outside the Russian Federation.
