A new natural monument has been registered in the Krasnoyarsk region with the support of the regional branch of Yabloko
Press Release, 29.04.2020
On April 28, the government of the Krasnoyarsk Territory adopted a decree declaring the Bazaikhsky geological cross-section on the Torgashinsky ridge within the boundaries of the city of Krasnoyarsk be a natural monument of regional significance. The Krasnoyarsk branch of the Yabloko party actively supported this environmental initiative by local residents.
Representatives of the Yabloko party actively participated in public discussions on the registration of a new natural monument. The regional branch of the party sent a special letter to the Directorate for Specially Protected Natural Territories of the Krasnoyarsk Territory with a request to register a new specially protected natural territory as soon as possible in order to “protect the unique geological object from the threat of partial damage or complete disappearance due to production in the immediate vicinity of it quarry mining for the extraction of natural stone”.
“Certainly, the long-awaited assignment of the status of a natural monument to the Bazaikhsky cross-section is primarily due to the activists of Krasnoyarsk who, for years, have been advocating for the special conservation status of this territory,” says Alexander Kolotov, Chairman of the Krasnoyarsk branch of the Yabloko party’s environmental faction. “However, one cannot stop there: in the future, the entire Torgashinsky ridge should be declared a specially protected natural area, otherwise its natural landscape will be lost forever.”
The Bazaikhsky cross-section is a natural coastal outcrop of the Bazaikha River, located on the right bank and forming a geological complex, represented by rock outcrops characteristic of a certain geological age. In addition, the territory of the future natural monument is a place of mass growth of plant species listed in the Red Books of the Russian Federation and the Krasnoyarsk Territory.
A new natural monument is located on the area of 134 hectares in Krasnoyarsk near the village of Bazaikha, on the right bank of the river of the same name, 5.3 km from its mouth.
Prior to the creation of the Bazaihsky open-cut natural monument, there was only one specially protected natural area within the city of Krasnoyarsk – a nature monument of regional significance – a Spring in the Akademgorodok area with an area of one square meter.
