In September YABLOKO intends to hold a mass protest action against the legislative initiatives to expand the powers of the law enforcement. Such a statement was made by party leader Sergei Mitrokhin at the Ekho Moskvi radio station.

“We believe that the civil society should resist the adoption of such monstrous initiatives. Otherwise, we should expect very tough times, they will simply shoot the participants of mass actions “, he said.

The politician further explained that this draft law envisaged additional proxies to the officers of the Federal Penitentiary Service to use force, as well as stipulated for possible extension of the powers of the Federal Security Service.

Mitrokhin said that this initiative was first discussed by the Committee of Protest Actions two weeks ago, where it was approved, but it was also planned to discuss it with the participation of a “wider circle” of public organizations and opposition parties.

Proceeding from the results of the discussion, there should be designated the date, place and format of this action, he added.

This second discussion of YABLOKO’s proposal should preliminary be held in early August, the proposed date of the action was scheduled for the 20th of September, the politician noted.

YABLOKO leader also stressed that he hoped that other opposition parties would join the preparation of holding of the action, which, according to Mitrokhin, should be “cross-party” by its nature.
