YABLOKO to conduct picketing for the freedom of mother of seven children Svetlana Davydova
Press Release, 02.02.2015
On 3 February YABLOKO activists will conduct picketing by the main office of the Federal Security Service (FSB) at Lubyanka Square, Moscow, demanding to free from custody Svetlana Davydova, mother of seven children charged with treason against the state.
YABLOKO leader Sergei Mitrokhin considers the criminal case against Davydova absurd and the decision to imprison mother of seven children (the youngest is two months only) cynical and unlawful.
Last week Sergei Mitrokhin sent an appeal to Alexander Bortnikov, Director of the Federal Security Service, demanding to publish information on the investigation of the criminal case against Svetlana Davydova, accused of a treason against the state and order the investigator to replace the measure of restraint [imprisonment] by a softer one.
Davydova is accused of reporting the Ukrainian Embassy about a phone conversation she had heard on a shuttle bus. It was clear from what a man on the bus was saying on the mobile phone that he was a military. The man was saying that he and his comrades-in-arms “were being sent in small groups and certainly in civilian clothes to Moscow, and from there on they would be sent further”. Svetlana Davydova decided that the military would be sent to Donetsk.
Sergei Mitrokhin also noted that Russia’s authorities had been repeatedly stating and also responding to YABLOKO’s inquiries that that there had been no Russian military in Donbass and Russia had not been a part of the conflict in south-east Ukraine.
The action will begin at 14:00.
