Pskov Region Court overturns regional electoral commission’s decision to register Pskov Yabloko’s unified list of candidates

Today, 25 August, the Pskov Region Court overturned the ruling of the regional electoral commission registering the unified list of candidates of Pskov Yabloko. The ruling has not entered into legal force yet. Yabloko considers it unlawful, unfounded, and adopted with the aim of unfairly eliminating political competitors. The ruling will be appealed to the court of appeal.
Yabloko Chairman Nikolai Rybakov:
“The grounds are so absurd that it feels strange even to write about them. Everything happening once again confirms this: the authorities can see that you [voters] support us and our position. And they are afraid that so many people will want to vote for the peace agenda that neither falsifications, nor administrative resources, nor electronic voting, nor the purge of the observer community will help to [reduce the vote for peace]. We, Yabloko, are continuing our shared work. Because our goal is for people to stop dying!”
The Pskov Region has become the fifth region where attempts are being made to prevent Yabloko from taking part in the regional parliament elections. The party’s list was previously removed from the elections in St. Petersburg, the Leningrad Region and Karelia. Attempts are also being made to prevent (https://eng.yabloko.ru/39038-2/ ) Yabloko from taking part in the elections in the Kaliningrad Region.
In Karelia, the registration of the list was overturned by a court following a claim by the Rodina party. The same party has secured the overturning of the registration of Yabloko’s list in the Pskov Region. In St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, the electoral commissions refused to register the party’s lists.
Yabloko is appealing the decisions obstructing the party’s participation in the elections. At present, Yabloko’s candidate lists continue to take part in regional campaigns in the Kaliningrad, Novgorod, Pskov, Sverdlovsk and Tomsk Regions.
The party’s candidates continue to take part in the elections in single-mandate constituencies even in the regions where Yabloko’s lists have been removed: 13 candidates in St. Petersburg and 12 in Karelia.
