Today, 21 August, it has been reported that the Rodina party has filed an administrative claim with the Pskov Regional Court demanding that the registration of Yabloko’s list of candidates for the regional Legislative Assembly elections be revoked.

The Pskov Region is the only one of the three regions where Yabloko is currently represented in a regional parliament and where the party’s list has been allowed to stand in the elections. In St. Petersburg, the electoral commission refused to register Yabloko’s list of candidates for the Legislative Assembly, while in Karelia the registration of the party’s list was overturned by a court following a claim by Rodina.

Our lawyers are currently studying the claim against Pskov Yabloko. It has been announced that the Pskov Regional Court will hear the case next Tuesday, 25 August.

“They are fighting us with no rules and no law. There are no legal grounds for depriving the residents of the Pskov Region of the chance to vote for peace, freedom and a life without fear. As everyone knows, there were no such grounds [in the Rodina claim] in the Supreme Court hearing concerning the registration of the party’s federal list either,” stresses Artur Gaiduk, Chairman of Pskov Yabloko.

It should be noted that on 17 August a panel of judges of the Supreme Court of Russia upheld, following a claim by the Rodina party, the cancellation of the registration of Yabloko’s federal list. The court cited, as one of the grounds for the party’s removal from the elections an allegid expenditure by Yabloko exceeding 35 million roubles outside the party’s electoral fund.
