Updated. Yabloko has filed an appeal against the decision of the Supreme Court of Russia to remove the party’s list from the State Duma elections. It was previously reported that representatives of the Rodina party had also filed an appeal. Both appeals will be heard on the same day – 17 August.

Russia’s Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing for Monday, 17 August (at 10:00), to consider an appeal against its own decision to remove Yabloko’s list of candidates from the elections to the 9th convocation of the State Duma. The appeal against the Supreme Court’s decision was filed today, 14 August, by Yabloko Chairman Nikolai Rybakov and Ivan Bolshakov, Head of the party’s Analytical Centre and one of the leaders of the federal list for the forthcoming elections.

“Our lawyers have proven absolutely conclusively that there were no grounds whatsoever — not the slightest, on a single point, over a single claim — for removing Yabloko. All of this was fabricated, and we will continue to prove this within the framework of Russian law. We have the Supreme Court, we have the Constitutional Court. And we will prove that the truth is on our side, and on the side of the people who support us,” said Nikolai Rybakov after filing the appeal against the Supreme Court’s decision.

“What do you expect?” journalists asked.

“Yabloko will be on the ballot in the State Duma elections,” Rybakov stated.

“And if not, what then?”

“Yabloko will be [on the ballot]. We will do everything necessary to make that happen.”

It should be noted that on 10 August, the Supreme Court upheld Rodina’s claim and cancelled the registration of Yabloko’s federal list. The ruling has not yet entered into force.

Both Yabloko’s and Rodina’s appeals are expected to be heard at the same hearing on 17 August.
