Every month, Yabloko invites everyone to its actions of writing letters to political prisoners — a traditional event that takes place at party offices in Moscow and Russian regions. Here anyone can sign a postcard or write a letter to a person persecuted for political reasons for their words, thoughts or conscientious work. For participants’ convenience, Yabloko regularly updates the schedule of events in Moscow and other cities of the country.
As of 21 November 2025, there are 1,176 political prisoners in Russia. A month ago there were 1,143 people. All of them are awaiting trial or have already been convicted in politically motivated criminal cases. The majority of political prisoners who have had at least one opportunity to communicate with someone through correspondence have emphasised: attention and support, even from a stranger, is a colossal emotional support giving strength to live through another day or week with hope for justice.
It should be noted that on 13 November, Yabloko held a large charity auction (https://eng.yabloko.ru/36840-2/ ) in support of political prisoners’ families. During the event, many lawyers and family members of political prisoners read letters from their clients and relatives in detention. Here is what student from Novosibirsk Anna Arkhipova wrote (arrested for “fakes” about the army and on charges of “grave” crimes, including extremist crimes):
“Support from outside is proof that the world cares about you. When another wave of sad thoughts comes, this becomes your lifeline: someone needs me, and I will hold on. Political prisoners have not killed anyone, have not committed any evil, yet they are called criminals. Your support is a hand on the shoulder and the words ‘I know you are a good person, I am with you.’ We are with you too. Although prison bars separate us, we are all citizens of one country, united in the impulse to see it free, peaceful and happy.”
We emphasise that writing to political prisoners is lawful and safe.
Those unable to come to Yabloko offices, can send letters to political prisoners independently using our instruction (https://www.yabloko.ru/pisma-politzekam).
The actions will be held in Yabloko’s regional branches all over Russia from 24 November through to 13 December. The list of the regional branches, addresses and dates are published here (the list will be updated): https://www.yabloko.ru/cat-news/2025/11/21-0
