Press Release, 30.07.2025

On 6 August, the tragic 80th anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, the Yabloko party invites its members and supporters to a screening of the film Children of Hiroshima.
On 6 August, 1945, an American B-29 bomber dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. Three days later, on 9 August, a second bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. As a result of the two explosions, over 80,000 people instantly died. However, the terrible consequences were just beginning: according to various estimates, by the end of 1945, from 90,000 to 166,000 people died from radiation sickness and cancer in Hiroshima and from 60,000 to 80,000 died in Nagasaki.
These events shocked the world. For the first time, humanity faced the catastrophic potential of nuclear weapons. Since then, nuclear weapons have not been used in any war.
On the 80th anniversary of the tragedy, we will show the film Children of Hiroshima by Japanese film director Kaneto Shindo. It was filmed in 1952, just seven years after the bombing. This drama tells the story of those who survived and were trying to live on in the destroyed city.
The screening will be followed by a discussion.
Address of the Yabloko party office in Moscow: Pyatnitskaya 31, building 2
