The appeal to the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Republic of Udmurtia was sent on the initiative of Elizaveta Khusnutdinova, a member of the regional Bureau of the Yabloko branch in Udmurtia. Yabloko is requesting information about the quality of water in Izhevsk Pond – one of the sources of centralised water supply for the city of Izhevsk, alongside Votkinsk Reservoir and artesian wells. For many years, the authorities have been unsuccessfully fighting pollution of the artificial water body stretching 12 kilometres. Meanwhile, about a third of Izhevsk’s population drinks water from the pond.
In its appeal to the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Udmurtia branch of Yabloko asks to be informed about the condition of all sources of centralised water supply for the city of Izhevsk regarding water quality and its pollution level. Additionally, Yabloko expects to receive information about comprehensive measures for cleaning surface and underground water bodies that serve as sources of centralised water supply for the city of Izhevsk, monitoring data of underground water bodies, as well as the percentage of wear of water intake facilities at drinking water preparation stations for Izhevsk’s water supply.
Since commercial enterprises are located in the catchment basins of rivers flowing into the reservoirs that serve as centralised sources of water supply for the city, data was also requested about the treatment facilities at these enterprises and the number of inspections conducted by agencies regarding the discharge of untreated wastewater.
The Ministry of Natural Resources of Udmurtia must respond to Yabloko within 30 days.
